This looks gorgeous and just so classic on you--like something Grace Kelly would have worn. Which is also to say it doesn't *look* huge at all. Man, wish I could wear a drop waist.

Love the dress. How to know when a pattern is too big?? maybe use muslin and cut out the top, just to see where the princess seams fall. I have had the same problem, and the only recourse is unacceptable.. a seam down the middle front of the dress. It still looks good to me, but I know what you are talking about...they won't catch you on this one again.

cute dress, even if you say it's to big! i wish i had some time to actually sew a garment, instead of just doing alterations.

i am going to have to try red quinoa.

The dress looks great! I love it. And what a treat to visit the Meg site...I especially liked the custom dresses. I wish I could wear that keyhole dress.

Nice case for your copyediting supplies, too. That fabric! :)

I think your seam allowances are probably off, there is normally a big difference between a serger seam allowance and the 5/8" (1.5cm) huge seam allowance that standard patterns use. If you can perhaps try and sew the side seams and shoulder seams with your sewing machine (using a basting stitch so you can take them out) to 5/8" and see if it makes a difference, if it does you can take apart the dress and put it together again so it fits.

I like the dress though, I don't think it looks too huge on you. I wish I could wear a dropped waist, just can't carry it off!
