oooh, I love knitting baby stuff! Are you on Ravelry? I can definitely give you some fast pattern recommendations that at least used worsted weight yarn - bulky I think is really too much for little ones. I just got some cotton chenille that would be cute for a baby sweater! Let me see how my week of knitting shapes up - I would love to do a baby sweater for you.
I just started a baby sweater for my neph last night! Do you know how to crochet? There seem to be some easy crochet ones around the web (knitting too but I’m not so good at that). Some of them really are just 5 rectangles put together (back, 2 fronts, 2 sleeves sewn into tubes) so I think you can do it!
unfortunately i haven’t got any time to spare with our move coming up - but etsy does have some cute knitwear for babies.
i’m a big fan of the “surprise jacket” by elizabeth zimmermann, from the 70s i believe. it is quite unconventional in its construction. there are some fabulous ones on flickr from that pattern http://www.flickr.com/search/?w=all&q=surprise+jacket&m=text

I’d also happily make a sweater for her - have you got a pattern in mind?

I wish I had an extra sweater lying around. Really. She is way cute.
This is a pretty pattern I’ll be making for my baby girl here in a month or so (for a Christmas gift!).
